2020 Garden Design

Under the auspices of Wehi Creative Collective, I collaborated with a Māori artist to redesign a garden for a  sculpture of cultural and historical significance at the Tutukaka Marina in New Zealand.

We discovered how powerful the integration of art and science is to stimulate new networks and solution oriented human/nature relations. Visitors can easily access information through a qr code on the sign in the garden to learn about the history and cultural significance of the location, as well as download an interactive plant guide I designed to inform visitors about the unique flora in the garden. The Wehi Creative Collective art project has enhanced business, education and leisure in the Tutukaka marina. We received one time short term funding from Creative NZ to finance the project. 

ABOUT WEHI CREATIVE COLLECTIVE

design strategy: We created a space for people to stop, relax and enjoy the beauty of the garden at the Tutukaka Marina. We used holistic creative principles (biophilic design) to forge connections with nature and to make places and spaces that people enjoy, relate to and remember.  Art to inspire a respectful human to nature relationship. “Our vision is to use the language of art to promote respectful, responsible and sustainable human interactions so vital to the care needed for the natural environment. Simple creative solutions have massive potential to increase the appreciation of the surrounding environment and strengthen practices of environmental stewardship. We believe we can improve our relationship with nature by recreating the identity of the harbour as a place of outstanding beauty, ecological significance, inspiration and education.”
